SA 285 Grade C plates and sheets are carbon steel used in pressure vessel fabrication under low to intermediate pressure conditions. The general chemical composition involves carbon (max 0.28%), manganese (0.90–1.30%), phosphorus (max 0.035%), and sulfur (max 0.035%). These plates have a minimum tensile strength of 380–515 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa. The material is not applicable for high-temperature service but has good weldability and ductility. It is normally supplied in the as-rolled condition, making it acceptable for moderate-pressure conditions where strength and economy are desirable.
